MOB ADJACENT, a multigenerational drama based upon the book “Mob Adjacent: A Family Memoir” by Jeffrey Gentile and Michael Gentile, Jr., follows an ordinary family’s extraordinary life under the protection of the infamous Chicago Outfit.
Set on a single day -- November 18, 1963 -- MOB ADJACENT finds the Gentile family at a crossroads when Mike Sr. turns to old friend Sam Giancana for help after his son gets arrested. The family gathers at Mike's Chicago nightclub, Orlando's Hideaway, where his wife Mary Ann worries about the mob's presence in their lives. Michael Junior thinks his father's connections are a get-out-of-jail-free card, and younger son Jeffrey can't find a way to tell his parents he's been accepted at college.
Filmmakers Gino Cafarelli (Godfather of Harlem, The Irishman, Capone) and Carmine Famiglietti (Tulsa King, Gotham, Pam and Tommy) set out to make a short film as proof-of-concept for a film or television series. Cafarelli and Famiglietti then worked with the Gentile brothers to find that one moment in their book that encapsulated their experience growing up among hoodlums and gangsters who served as trusted family friends and honorary uncles. The film offers a glimpse of an ordinary family's extraordinary life under the protection of the infamous Chicago Outfit.
In August 2025, filming began based on one incident in the seven-decade story of Mob Adjacent: A Family Memoir. Working together, Gino Cafarelli, Carmine Famiglietti, and Jeffrey Gentile crafted a screenplay that combined a story about a family within a larger story about another kind of Family. With a final script, lights and camera ready, the set and the actors dressed, the production team was ready for action.
